Fred Maurer

Friedrich Ludwig Bernhard was born on the family farm February 5, 1937, to Ludwig and Margaret (nee Bauer) Maurer.  He was baptized at home on February 14, 1937, and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church, Neudorf, on April 6, 1952.  Fred received his schooling at Pheasant Hills School.  He started hauling sheaves at the age of 14, and when he was 22 years old, in 1959, he took over the family farm, where he farmed until his death.  On July 5, 1963, Fred was united in marriage to Evelyn Litzenberger at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Melville.  Their marriage was blessed with three children, Kelly, Dynette and Nadine.  Fred was a committee member of the Wheat Pool in Neudorf until its closure and worked at the Neudorf Co-op. He also served on the Park and Rec. Board, was a councilor for the RM of McLeod, served on church council and was in his 50th year of singing in the Christ Lutheran Church choir.  Fred enjoyed playing Scrabble and card games, doing word search puzzles, fixing things and farming.  He played the piano accordion and button accordion and enjoyed spending time with all his grandchildren.

Fred was predeceased by his parents; a brother in infancy; a niece, Loni Gattinger; his parents-in-law, Val and Caroline Litzenberger; four brothers-in-law, Leonard Litzenberger in infancy, Ed Litzenberger, Herb Schmidt and Chris Weisgerber; and two sisters-in-law, Helen Litzenberger in infancy and Eleanor Weisgerber.  He leaves to mourn his passing: his wife, Evelyn of Neudorf; one son, Kelly (Maureen) of Neudorf; two daughters, Dynette (Nelson) Schutz of Martensville; Nadine (Doug) Gattinger of Neudorf; six grandchildren, Christopher (Kerrie), Mitchell and Hannah Maurer, Levi and Kyla Schutz and Angelica Gattinger; one great-grandchild, Aiden; three brothers, Arlin (Doreen) of Melville; Lorne (Lillian) of Neudorf; William (Vera) of Neudorf; two sisters, Florence (Lorne) Gottfried of Neudorf; Isabel (Richard) Gattinger of Ottawa; Evelyn’s family, and numerous nieces and nephews.
