Obituary for Elizabeth "Liz" Chudiak (Mizinski)

Elizabeth "Liz" Chudiak (Mizinski)
Elizabeth Chudiak, age 81 of Melville, passed away on Friday, April 18, 2014. She was born on July 2, 1932 to the late Alex and Wasylena Mizinski.

She had suffered from Alzheimers the past number of years and with declining health, passed away quietly and peacefully at a seniors care facility in Calgary close by where her son Greg lived. Elizabeth was predeceased by her husband Nick Chudiak who died in 1999.

Born in Sheho, Saskatchewan, Elizabeth grew up there alongside twelve siblings (Ann, Doris, Nick, Mary, Kay, Bill, Vicki, Rose, Ivan, Steve, Eva, and Natalie). Her family owned an orchard and farm where they grew a range of different fruits and grains. Being part of a large family meant money was scarce and hard work was the norm. It was this work ethic and hardiness typically possessed by Saskatchewan people that stayed with Elizabeth throughout the rest of her life.

On September 26, 1958, Elizabeth was married to Nick Chudiak. They moved to Melville, Saskatchewan and shortly thereafter started their family. They had three children: David, Greg, and Susan, who now reside in Provost, Calgary, and Swift Current.

Known by her family and friends simply as just “Liz”, she had a feisty personality that gave her an attitude to get things done, whether it was around the house, keeping her kids in line, or volunteering in the community. Liz very much enjoyed participating in and watching sports. In her younger years she was an accomplished softball player and bowler. However, most important to her was watching her kids in different sporting activities which usually meant driving all over Saskatchewan and sometimes beyond. As an active member of the Melville community, she enjoyed many gatherings with friends and family there.

Liz moved to Calgary in 2004, so she could be closer to her grand-children. She took great joy in spending her time there with them on a daily basis where she helped out wherever she could. If the measure of a person’s life is the positive impact they have on others, Liz Chudiak led a great life. She was loved and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Liz leaves behind many relatives along with her family of three children and six grand-children: David Chudiak (Kassandra), Greg and Jacqueline Chudiak (Tyler, Kelsey, McKenna), and Susan Chudiak (Clayton and Michelle).
