Obituary for
Winifred Ferne "Winnie" Kent (Dorrance)
“Winnie” passed away with her family by her side on August 16, 2014 at the age of 80 years. She was born on March 6, 1934 on the Highview farm southeast of Kennedy. She was the seventh child of nine born to Ferne and Stanley Dorrance. Winnie received her education at Highview and Wawota High School, and her Teaching Certificate at Moose Jaw Teachers’ College in 1953. She then taught at Belleville, Grenfell, Saskatoon and Prince Albert, and returned to Grenfell where she retired from teaching in 1988.
Winnie wed the love of her life Carmen Kent on July 23, 1955, and they have had 59 years of a wonderful life together. Winnie loved life and expressed it through her love of music and flowers. Her family was most important of all, and she was particularly proud of her grandchildren. She loved to cook and entertain and hosted many events in their lovely home. Every occasion was special to her, and she took a genuine interest in others. Being involved in her church, the choir, and the community was so important to Winnie.
Winnie is survived by her loving husband Carmen; her children, Gordon (Donna) Kent and their children Richard and Garrett; Donna (Larry) Smith and critters; Karen (Chad) Souchotte and their children Nolan, Dustin and Ryan; as well as her siblings and in-laws, Elsie Allan, Annie (Fred) Easton, Kay Dorrance, Tom (Irene) Dorrance, Margaret Guillaume, Clair (Lorna) Dorrance, Doug (Eileen) Kent, and Don (Betty) Kent; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her sisters Aleita (Tom White and Ewald Prince) and Mary (Sam) McClure; her brother Joe Dorrance and brothers-in-law Peter Guillaume and Ray Allan.
