Obituary for
William "Bill" Polishak
Bill was born December 23, 1929 to Michael and Stephanie Polishak and was raised in Plainview, Saskatchewan. He was the youngest of seven children with two older sisters and four older brothers. While he was growing up, Bill worked on neighbouring farms after school. Before getting married, he worked for the Department of Highways.
In 1957, Bill married Molly Weber and shortly thereafter started working as a bartender at the King George Hotel in Melville. In 1959 he started his 31-year career with the City of Melville, during which time he worked as a water metre reader, a labourer in the public works department and a relief operator at Melville’s water treatment plant. While employed with the city, he also served for 25 years as a firefighter on the volunteer fire department.
Bill was a self-taught guitar player, and throughout his adult years, he played with several bands. A highlight for him was his many appearances on Yorkton’s television show known as Profile. He took great pleasure in sharing his musical talents by entertaining others, and he often volunteered his abilities at St. Paul Lutheran Home. Bill’s hobbies included gardening, crossword puzzles, watching television game shows and sports. He spent countless hours in his miniature in-home recording studio making cassettes and CDs of his favourite music for family and friends. Bill enjoyed picking up those who needed a ride every week on his way to play bingo. He also enjoyed reading the paper daily and the many magazines to which he subscribed. In 2011 he started attending the Day Wellness Program at St. Paul Lutheran Home, where he made many new friends and thoroughly enjoyed the daily activities.
Bill was predeceased by his wife Molly, his sister Mary Tropak, and his brothers August (Gus), James, Walter and Michael. He is survived by son Randy of Melville; daughter Lynn Furseth (Cecil) of Saskatoon; grandson Tyler of Calgary; granddaughter Jana of Saskatoon; sister Pauline Burak of Yorkton; sister-in-law Mary Polishak of Victoria, BC; and several nieces and nephews.
