Obituary for Elfriede Wilhelmina Piller (Baber)

Elfriede Wilhelmina Piller (Baber)
With much sadness, we the family of Elfriede Piller wishes to announce the sudden passing of our mother, grandmother, aunt, music teacher and friend on Friday, October 10th, 2014 at the age of 72 years.

Elfriede was predeceased by her husband Jerry Piller; granddaughter Shalynn Piller; parents Philip and Marie (nee Christmann) Baber; two infant brothers; sister Nora Piller; brothers Herb Baber and Otto Baber; sister-in-law Gladys Baber; parents-in-law Phillip and Katherine (nee Armbruster) Piller; sisters and brothers-in-law George and Evelyne Krieger, Gordon and Ruby Schweitzer, Alfred and Hazel Piller, Ed Piller, Anita Piller and Jacqueline Piller. She leaves to mourn: her daughter Linda (Alan) Jansen; her son Ken (Sharon) Piller; grandchildren Chelsey (Travis) Kirschman, Keysha Jansen and Jadyn Piller. Also left to mourn are sister-in-law Irene Baber, brother-in-law Raymond Piller, sister-in-law Hilda Piller, brothers-in-law Tom Piller and Don (Yvette) Piller plus numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, music students and friends.

Elfriede was born June 20, 1942 to Philip and Marie (nee Christmann) Baber. She was born and raised on the family farm at Neudorf, Saskatchewan. Elfriede loved music from an early age and worked hard to receive her degree in music through Royal Conservatory of Music of Toronto in 1964. She married Jerry Piller on August 10, 1962, and they raised two children, Linda and Ken.

Elfriede began teaching music lessons in the surrounding area at the age of 15 and was extremely proud of music students at recitals, festivals and exams. She touched many lives in sharing the joy of music, and the legacy will always live on through her music students. She had a deep faith and spent many hours with the church, specifically as an organist.

The greatest joys in Elfriede’s life were her children and grandchildren. Countless hours were spent watching all of their events, and somehow she became everyone's Nana, not just to her own grandchildren. She loved life, loved to share holidays and special occasions, and her door was always open to friends and family. She loved to knit and crochet and, of course, make famous popcorn balls.

Mom, Nana Elf, Aunty Elf, Elfriede will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
