Obituary for
Edward Albert Hoedel
Edward Hoedel of St. Paul Lutheran Home, Melville and formerly of Grayson, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at the age of 94 years.
Edward Albert was born on the family farm near Grayson on Friday, July 16, 1920 to Albert and Elizabeth (nee Paidel) Hoedel. He lived most of his life on the farm, and cared for his mother until her passing. Edward moved to the village of Grayson in 1984. He slowly moved into retirement. In retirement, he kept busy with his raspberries, cutting grass and shoveling snow for his neighbours in exchange for meals. He was also caretaker of the Seniors Citizens Centre, where he honed his pool skills. He was a faithful church goer, and attended most local funerals. Edward worked hard throughout his life and he leaves his family with the memories of his simple lifestyle and a keen interest in world affairs.
Edward was predeceased by his father Albert, on July 27, 1930; his mother Elizabeth, on December 10, 1984; siblings John in 1963, Mary in 1968, Otto in 2006 and Albert in 2010; sisters-in-law Mary Hoedel in 2003 and Orpha Hoedel-Sjostrom in 2004; a nephew, Darrell Hoedel in 1973 and a niece, Lorna Hooyenga in 2005.
