Obituary for
Nellie Schick (Smart)
On March 14, 2015 Heaven gained a special angel. With her family by her side, our loving mother/grandmother/great-grandmother, Nellie Schick (nee Smart) passed away peacefully after a long and happy life.
Nellie was born, and grew up, in the Fenwood district where she met her loving husband Samuel Schick. Nellie and Sam were happily married for 29 years and enjoyed life to the fullest. They were involved in farming, the insurance business, travelling and entertaining in their home. After the passing of her beloved Sam in 1975, Nellie moved to Melville where she resided in her house until 2014, before moving to Queen Street Manor.
Nellie will always be remembered for her special gifts of kindness, caring, loving and generosity towards all who knew her. Her faith was very important to her and was active with the United Church for many years. Nellie also enjoyed travelling, gardening, bowling, cooking, volunteering and spending time with her walking, coffee and card groups. Her talent at knitting and quilting leaves her family with many precious gifts to remember her by. Above everything else, Nellie cherished spending time with her beloved family.
Nellie was predeceased by her parents Dennis and Pauline Smart and stepmother Mary Smart; husband Samuel Schick, brother Leonard Smart; and numerous sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.
Left to cherish her wonderful memories and sadly miss her are her sons Delbert (Carole) Schick of Fenwood, SK, Larry Schick of Chilliwack, BC, Sandy Schick (Mo) of Vancouver, BC and her daughter-in-law Joan Schick of Regina, SK; five grandchildren she adored: Tracy (Peter) Trottier, Tammy Schick (Darcy), Trevor (Andrea) Schick, Jeremy (Alicia) Schick and Todd Schick; her six precious great-grandchildren: Alexandre Trottier, Amarige Trottier, Tianna Schick, Zachary Schick, Paige Schick and Morgan Schick. She also leaves to mourn her stepbrother Johnny (Marion) Smart and stepsisters Julia Krewda, Mary Herman, Mabel (Emil) Sereda and Adeline (Bill) Maduck; and numerous other family members and wonderful friends.
The family would like to offer a special “thank you” to the caring staff at St. Peters Hospital during the last days of Nellie’s precious life.
