Obituary for Walter H. Miller

Walter was born on December 25, 1925 in Germany and immigrated to Canada with his family at the age of 6 months. They settled in the Koenigsberg district where they farmed. On August 3, 1950, Walter married Helen, daughter of Fred and Margaret (nee Kraushaar) Schneider. They were blessed with two children. Together, the couple farmed for 49 years. In 1995, they moved into Melville and eased into retirement. However, Walter still kept busy and enjoyed his hobbies. In 2007, Walter and Helen moved into Queen Street Manor where they resided together until Walter's passing.

Walter never met a stranger and could make conversation with just about anyone. When the work was done on the farm, Walter and Helen enjoyed coming into Melville for coffee. Going to auctions and searching for additions to his antique collection was a favourite pastime. Attending church was an important part of his life. Walter always had a song in his heart and would often sing his favourite hymns.

ln recent years, Walter and Helen most looked forward to spending time with their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and although they weren't travelers, many trips were taken to see them.

We all knew that Walter's health had been failing in the past few years and he was longing to go home.

Walter will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 64 years, Helen; son Gordon (Mary Anne) Miller of Sherwood Park, AB; daughter Darlene (Heinz)Jendrasheske of Melville; grandchildren Kimberly (Chris) Fenske, Joel (Cathy) Miller, Aaron Miller, Stacey (Tom) Stennes, Melissa Jendrasheske (Josh Kretsch); step- granddaughters Kristin (Kevin) Bureau and Dawn (Josh) Pick; great-grandchildren Easton, Olive and Raine Fenske, Lyla and Brody Miller, Jaida and Logan Stennes, Brooke and Caleb Bureau and Elijah Pick; brother Reinhold (Adeline) Miller of Melville, sister Esther (William) Schindel of Melville; brother-in-law Norman (Lucille) Schneider of Saskatoon, SK, and sister-in-law Marjorie (Jack) Hanlon of Sherwood Park, AB; as well as nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Walter was predeceased by his parents, George and Emelia; brothers Arthur (in infancy) and Erwin, who was killed in action in World War II; sister and brother-in-law Erna and Fred Hauser; and mother and father-in-law Margaret and Fred Schneider.
