Obituary for Linda Ulmer (Pekrul)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Linda Ulmer on April 14, 2016 at St. Paul Lutheran Home in Melville, Saskatchewan.

Linda was born to Henry and Elizabeth Pekrul on September 3, 1919 in the Hillfarm area south of Lemberg. She was the third oldest child in a family of eight. Linda and her siblings worked hard alongside their parents; she loved the farm life.

Linda attended St. Stephanie’s Lutheran Church and went to school at Maple Green and Endfield until Grade 8. She enjoyed playing ball, and her favourite team was the Blue Jays. Linda left home and started working for the Ken Campbell family and following that, the Loveridge family; during this time she met Joseph Ulmer. They were married on November 8, 1942 at Hillfarm. Linda and Joe lived on a beautiful farm, not far from Grenfell, where they were blessed with two sons. They enjoyed the farm life, working side by side. Besides keeping a beautiful garden, Linda enjoyed baking, sewing, quilting, crocheting, dancing and playing cards with many friends and family. They later moved to Grenfell and got their wish of a girl to complete their family.

It was difficult for Joe and Linda when they lost their son Leonard, but their faith remained strong. They were blessed with four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, with whom she loved to spend time. After Joe’s passing, Linda remained in Grenfell for a time. She later moved in with her daughter Brenda for five years, then to Bangor and Broadview before moving to St. Paul Lutheran Home, where she resided until her passing.

Linda was very strong in her faith and belonged to the ladies altar guild at Peace Lutheran Church in Grenfell. Her belief in angels and in God stayed strong until her last breath.

Linda was predeceased by her parents Henry and Elizabeth, husband Joe (July 5, 2001) and son Leonard (November 5, 1966), brothers George, Jack and Art, sister Evelyn Anderson, in-laws Elsie Pekrul, Dan Reitenbach, BobAnderson and Fred Bishop, nephew Wayne Pekrul and niece Karen Bishop. She leaves to mourn her passing: son Ron (Darlene) Ulmer of Calgary, AB; daughter Brenda (Jim) Manovich of Melville; grandchildren Trena Ulmer of Calgary, AB, Tanis (Tim) Vale of Calgary, AB, Tanya Manovich of Yorkton and James Manovich of Yorkton; great-grandchildren Melissa Hynes of Calgary, AB, Karlee Hynes of Calgary, AB and Courtney Vale of Calgary, AB; sisters Ida Reitenbach of Vancouver, BC and Bernice Bishop of Calgary, AB; brother Leonard (Ruth) Pekrul of Grenfell; sisters-in-law Elsie Pekrul of Lemberg and Pearl Pekrul of Regina, as well as several nephews and nieces.
