I have many fond memories of Uncle Walter, and the many visits we made to the farm and Melville over the past years.
Uncle Walter took me to my first farm sale and auctions when I was young. I believe the first we went to was an auction at Browns. Since then I was hooked and became an antique collector and collector of anything and everything. A passion I carry to this day.
On a visit to Edmonton he was out searching for antiques and harness, one of his favorite items, he found a 1967 Plymouth sedan. The next day I returned with my parents and that became my first car.
On that same trip, or maybe it was another... he posted an add on a bulliten board, in an arena that I was playing hockey in, regarding, that he was looking for and had harness for sale.Well, by the time we came home from the game that evening the phone was ringing off the hook from people looking to buy and sell. He certainly had a special gift when it came to buying and selling! Still makes me laugh to this day.
Many memories of days and nights spent with family out on the farm in Melville. Christmas (his birthday)and Easter celebrations, harvest time in fall, summer nights and winter mornings watching him, Aunt Helen, Gordon and Darlene milk the cows in the barn. So many memories I hold in my heart to this day.
Another fond memory was a joke that we shared about a dog named DUKE!! He loved that joke!
My favorite though, was walking through the many sheds at the farm and looking at the many treasures that he had aquired from the auctions and sales that he had attended. Some of which I bought from him and still own today. He always negotiated with me on the price and I know I always got a "good deal" !!
I will always treasure these memories and know the gift he shared with me, the passion of "the sale" will always be with me.
I will miss you Uncle Walter... Duke...
