Obituary for
Mary Ruston (Jones)
Mary Ruston (nee Jones) was born on October18, 1919, the ninth of fourteen children born to John and Jane Jones of Cypress River, Manitoba. She married Edward Ruston on June 21, 1944, and they resided in Greenway, Manitoba until they moved to Melville, Saskatchewan in 1950, where they raised their four daughters, Enid, Sharon, Sandra and Bonnie.
Mary's desire to be a nurse was fulfilled when she began working as a nurses' aide at St. Peter's Hospital from 1960-1984, all but three of those years spent working on the pediatric ward. Mary was a loyal member of the Rebecca Lodge, Horticultural Society and First United Church Choir for many years. She and Edward loved music and hosted numerous musical evenings with friends and family over the years. She was a generous and gracious hostess. Mary loved children and young people, and her family meant everything to her. Many of our friends have expressed that she was like a second mum and grandma to them, always interested in how and what they were doing.
Mary moved to Regina after Edward's passing in 2000 in order to be closer to her children and grandchildren. She lived at Queen Victoria Estates, Ashton Manor and finally Golden Prairie Home in Indian Head. She made lasting friendships wherever she went.
Mary was predeceased by her husband Edward in 2000; a son in childbirth and daughter Sharon in 1996; her parents John and Jane Jones; her brothers Robert (infancy), Jack (Agnes), Richard (Edith), Robert (a second brother by that name), William, Dave (Bernice); her sisters Amy (Ernie Downing), Maggie and Jenny Jones, Catherine McDougall; and her brothers-in-law George Aubry and Glen MacDonald. She is survived by her daughters Enid (Reg) Common, Sandra Gadica, Bonnie (Cal) Pfeifer; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; brother Murray (Jean) Jones, sisters Nellie Aubry and Laura MacDonald, brother-in-law Preston Ruston (Hazel) and numerous nieces and nephews.
