Obituary for
Joseph John "Joe" Bomberak
Joe was born in the Stockholm district on April 8, 1931 to John and Julia (nee Kulcsar) Bomberak. He was raised on the family farm and attended Pilchak School until the eighth grade, at which time he quit to take up farming with his parents and brothers. Joe eventually established his own farm two miles south of Bangor and on October 24, 1962 was united inmarriage to Lorraine Kormos. Joe and Lorraine had one son, Jerome. Joe’s farming operation included grain, cattle and occasionally acquiring colts for breaking. He also worked off the farm for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, the Pioneer elevator in Stockholm and the Federal elevator in Bangor. Joe volunteered a lot of his spare time to the Bangor Curling Club, St. Michael’s Church in Bangor and the Bangor hall committee. He also enjoyed hunting and was well known for his skinning and dressing ability and will be remembered for how he would grind his knives down to almost nothing just to get the perfect edge.
After Lorraine passed away on July 17, 2002, Joe spent a lot of time with his brother Steve, going to the coffee shop, horse sales and anywhere else he could enjoy the company of friends. Joe loved to visit with people of every age and was known to offer up a shot of whiskey to extend his hospitality to his friends. Joe was very close with Jerome and Wanda, and his grandchildren were particularly special to him. He spent a lot of time with the kids, including teaching Logan how to snare gophers and allowing Kaylan to paint his fingernails. Although he had officially retired from farming, Joe never lost interest in what was happening on the farm, especially at baling and harvest time.
As his health began to fail, Joe realized it was time to move off the farm and into Morris Lodge where he could receive the daily assistance he required. After two years there, he moved to Centennial Special Care Home in Esterhazy, where he spent the last two months of his life.
Joe was predeceased by his parents, John and Julia; his wife, Lorraine; a great-granddaughter, Jorja; a brother, John in infancy; his twin sister, Theresa; brothers-in-law John Czinka, Alfred Rausch and Andy Swedja; and a nephew, Craig Kormos. Leaving to cherish his memory are: his son Jerome and wife Wanda; two grandchildren Logan (Sarah) and Kaylan (Mike); three great-grandchildren Mahlyn, Sawyer and Stetsyn; his siblings Steve Bomberak, Barbara Rausch, Helen (Henry) Swedja, Wilma (Peter) Yachina and Alvira (John) Materna; sister-in-law Joan Bomberak and brothers-in-law Ernie (Agnes) Kormos and Les (Shirley) Kormos; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives.
