Obituary for
Helen Hubenig (Presiloski)
Helen Hubenig (Presiloski) was born March 5, 1922 in Valley River, MB to Joseph and Anna (nee Gnodowski) Presiloski. She grew up on the farm with her eight brothers and sisters where she learned the value and satisfaction that comes from hard work. This work ethic continued her whole life, and she always found pleasure from working hard. As a young woman, she was working at a boarding house when she was asked to go call the young man upstairs for dinner. She couldn’t remember his name when she knocked on the door so just called, “Daddy, time for dinner!” Little did she know that the gentleman was her future husband, Ambrose, whom she fondly called “Daddy” their entire marriage. They were married November 12, 1942 in Melville and were blessed with a son, Barry in 1946. In 1947 Ambrose and Helen moved into the family home that we all know and love for the rest of their lives. For decades they owned and operated Hubenig Electric, an electronics sales and repair shop in Melville. Helen was industrious and a hard worker so in earlier years, she took in boarders for whom she cooked, cleaned, and washed and pressed clothes. Never ones to turn their backs to those in need, Helen and Ambrose also welcomed Helen’s sister Anita and her elderly parents until their deaths. Anyone who happened to visit were always greeted with legendary hospitality and a hearty meal that Helen would whip up from frozen or canned homemade meals. Helen enjoyed her large garden and beautiful yard that provided so much food for her family and guests. In her 69 years in the house, countless numbers of people walked through the doors, and not one person left without a hug and a full belly.
Helen was a zealous member and supporter of the local congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. After they retired from the radio and T.V. business in the mid 70’s, she increased her share in spreading the bible's message to many in the community. Together with Ambrose, they enjoyed a fruitful and productive ministry. Their life revolved around their worship of Jehovah. They became mature, spiritual mentors to several in the congregation, leaving an imprint on many. Even in her later years, Helen remained a tremendous example of zeal and Godly Devotion, never missing at the meetings or in the ministry right until the end. Her energy and drive were an example to many much younger ones. Spiritual highlights included travelling to many locations throughout the years, from New York to Los Angeles, to attend large, landmark conventions and assemblies.
Helen passed away peacefully in the early morning hours on December 29, 2015. Her lifelong, deep study of the bible was a solid basis for her conviction in the fulfilment of Jehovah's promises. One of her favourites is recorded at Revelation 21:3,4. She enthusiastically looked forward to that New World where death, pain and sorrow will no longer exist, and the whole human family will enjoy the blessings of God's Kingdom here on paradise earth. She lived in “eager expectation” of that time, never losing her sense of urgency that we are living deep in the last days. Helen was dearly loved and a spiritual inspiration for so many. The imprint of her kindness, generosity, hospitality, compassion and amazing work ethic will surely mark hearts forever.
Helen was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Anna, her brothers (Jack, Frank, Wally and Eddie) and sisters (Jessie, Rose, Anita and Mary), her son Barry, and her beloved husband Ambrose. She leaves to cherish her memory sister-in-law, Alma Taylor, daughter-in-law Sandy (Sid) Klynstra, granddaughter TJ(Via Barry’s first marriage) (Doug) Anderson; great grandchildren Rachel, Sarah, and Carter, grandaughter Allison Hubenig; great grandchildren Zoe and Emma, granddaughter Andy (Brian Hamel) Hubenig; great grandchildren Jessie, Jacqueline and Julie, numerous nieces and nephews and, her spiritual family, the brothers and sisters of the Melville Congregation.
