Rose Sophia Schick
Rose Sophia (nee Goebel) Schick passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at Sunset Extendicare in Regina, Saskatchewan at the age of 96.
Rose was predeceased by her parents Jacob and Margaret (nee Hollinger) Goebel, her loving husband Jake (1989), her daughter Marlene Goretzky (2015) and her son-in-law Dave Goretzky (2002), her siblings and in-laws Louie, Karl (Katie Hollinger), John (Emma Lowenberg), Katie (Karl Schick), Lena (John Schmidt), Bill (Tillie Lutz), Mary (Phillip Geres), Val (Martha Bieber), Henry (Margret Claridge), Ernie (Lena Schutz) and Elsie (Robert Peace). Rose leaves to cherish her memory: daughters Iris (Bill) Besler, Gail (Garry) Calcutt and Sharon (Eric) Neal; grandchildren Eric (Barb) Goretzky, Duane (Leslie) Goretzky, Shane (Heather) Goretzky, Leanne (Dean) Ginther, Dana (Curtis) Engel, Danita (Jason) Achtemichuk, Shawn (Eva) Besler, Jamie Besler, Kim Besler, Scott (Darlene) Calcutt, Laurie Ann (Grant) Bjornerud, Tyson Neal, Terra (Justin) Kot; great-grandchildren Koryn (Edward) Ortiz, Nathan Goretzky, Raechalle (Jared) Marcotte, Ashley Goretzky, Amber Goretzky, Natalia Goretzky, David Goretzky, Ryan Ginther, Kaden Ginther, Lucas Ginther, Treston Achtemichuk, Keelin Achtemichuk, Zander Achtemichuk, Kelsey Besler-Smith, Derrick Besler-Smith, Stephanie Calcutt, Kristopher Calcutt, Mackenzie Bjornerud, Brady Bjornerud, Lucy Kot, Dylan Kot and great-great-grandchild Claire Marcotte.
Rose was born on the family farm south of Neudorf on March 30, 1919. She was christened by Rev. M. Rickter, and then in 1933 she was confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Neudorf by Rev. Miller. She was married in 1941 to Jake Schick. They lived on their farm north of Lemberg, where they raised four daughters.
Rose spent many enjoyable hours gardening, canning, baking and quilting, as well as playing bingo and bowling when time permitted. Then in 1978 they retired to Melville and spent many happy years until Jake’s passing in 1989. Rose stayed in Melville until 2011 when she then moved to Regina to be closer to her family. Her final days were spent at Sunset Extendicare Home. The family would like to thank the staff at Sunset Extendicare for their help and care looking after their mother, Rose.
