Obituary for Heddy Audrey Schick (Tressel)

Heddy Audrey Schick (Tressel)
Heddy was born at Neudorf on January 5, 1933, and was the youngest child of Katie and Louis Tressel. She attended school in Neudorf and for a brief time in Peachland, BC.

Heddy married Ernie Schick in 1952, and they resided in various places during Ernie’s career with the CNR before returning to the family farm in the Melville area. They had five children together - Connie, Tim, Wendy, Kelly and Doug. In 1985 Heddy and Ernie built a new home on the farm. Even though she had her hands full with the children, Heddy worked extremely hard keeping up the house and maintaining the yard, garden and flowers. Ernie passed away in 1988, and Heddy remained on the farm until her illness forced her to move into Melville. In 2011 she was admitted to St. Paul Lutheran Home, and on March 28, 2017, she passed away peacefully with family by her side.

One of Heddy’s greatest loves (aside from her family) was music and dancing. Early in their marriage, Ernie and Heddy loved going to dances and attended Schick’s barn dances regularly. After Ernie passed away, Heddy continued to go dancing with family and friends, even travelling several hours to go to polkafests. She loved to dance and was a very good dancer.

Heddy was very gifted in crafts such as cross stitching, knitting and sewing. She spent her spare time creating beautiful items that she would sell at local craft fairs. Heddy also enjoyed baking, bowling and camping. She was fortunate enough to enjoy some travelling in retirement to Florida and other areas in the U.S. She would travel by train to visit family and friends in BC and Edmonton. Heddy also loved her dogs and cats, as they gave her companionship when she lived alone.

Heddy was blessed with eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She will be missed by all, and her memory will live in us all forever.

Heddy was predeceased by her husband Ernie, parents Katie and Louis, brothers Jake (Teenie), Ernie (Freda), sister Elsie (Leonard) and son-in-law Donn. Heddy leaves to cherish her memory her children Connie, Tim (Denise), Wendy (Dennis), Kelly (Pat) and Doug (Shannon); grandchildren Cory, Leslie, Morgan, Madison, Dustin, Logan, Devin and Sidney; great-grandchildren Brant, Chantal, Ryder and Jaxson; sisters-in-law Irene and Doreen, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
